Fish Hoek…Get Hooked!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

In one of our previous posts about Earth Hour, I had mentioned that the ladies and I were going out that night to a party that was anything but typical.  Here is why, the party “Tribute to a Lady” was sponsored by the socially conscious Fish Hoek wine company.  Fish Hoek is a South African wine company that helps build pre-primary schools in Stellenbosch South Africa.

“We believe in challenging the status quo and making a difference globally and locally.  By ensuring that our local families in South Africa have an education and an opportunity to prosper. That is why we at Fish Hoek wines are proud to support 100% of funds to build and manage the Ikhaya Pre-Primary School in South Africa. ”

Kudos to Fish Hoek and the organizers of ”Tribute to a Lady” for making socially conscious decisions in industries that otherwise are revered for the opposite.

Earth Hour

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

On March 27, 2010 between the hour of 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. people around the world, including team thinkGood turned their lights out for the third annual “Earth Hour”.

The funny thing about that Saturday was the fact that the ladies and I had made plans to go out that evening to celebrate a few birthdays.  We hardly ever venture into the downtown core anymore for the typical Saturday night party, but this party was anything but typical and we were up for celebrating.  How do the two relate you might ask?  Well 8:30- 9:30 p.m. is pretty much prime prep time for a night out on the town, but we were definitely up for the challenge!  How did we accomplish this?…well it’s all about planning ahead and being proactive!  I made sure that my outfit and accessories were already chosen and ready to go, made all my necessary phone calls, bbms, sms text messages etc., and then I was ready for “shut down”!

I spent that hour with family and friends that had come over to visit.  Although I might have been disconnected from the world, I used that opportunity to reconnect with the people in my life who matter the most.  As the hour came to and end, and  as I scurried off to finish getting ready, I reflected on how great it felt to invest in my family instead of my hydro bill!

Was it a success?  You be the judge!  Attached are some pictures from the night….not  the best quality but the evidence speaks for itself!
