With the excitement surrounding the upcoming 2010 World Cup I was looking through some information online about some of the players, and stumbled on this clip of the 1 GOAL campaign. The 1 Goal campaign has united many of the top soccer stars from around the world and even one of my idols Queen Rania of Jordan.

I have such an appreciation for sports in general, not necessarily because I appreciate the skill level demonstrated by the athletes, but more for the ability of sport to be used as a tool to unite countries, and demonstrate teamwork.  I believe sport has the ability to teach valuable life skills such as problem solving, team building, comradery, loyalty, work ethic, leadership etc.

Speaking of learning, 1 GOAL is a campaign that strives to provide education for all.  There are millions of children around the world that do not have access to learn the simple life skills that we take for granted living in the country that we do.  Please join the campaign by signing a pledge that will without a doubt help create a promise of a better tomorrow for millions of children around the world.

The Sandwich Swap

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Across the globe, in Jordan, Queen Rania *standing O for all the great work she does* has written a children’s book called The Sandwich Swap. Queen Rania, a strong advocate for literacy, education, and the advancement of women, has recounted a childhood experience to help teach youngsters and adults alike a little bit about tolerance.

Lily and Salma are best friends. They play together and stick together through thick and thin. But who would have ever thought that ordinary peanut butter or plain old hummus could come between them? Lily and Salma don’t quite understand each other’s tastes, but does that mean they can’t be friends? They understand far better than a lot of gown ups that these things hardly matter and that friendship is the most important thing of all.

Her Majesty, Queen Rania’s children’s book is inspired by her own experience.  As written by Kelly Dipuchio, it is a warm-hearted and gently humorous fable about two girls who become aware of their subtle cultural differences, only to have their friendship strengthened as a result. Her Majesty travels the world promoting children’s causes as well as cross-cultural understanding and tolerance

Let’s take things back to primary school for a second. What was in your lunch box? What were your friends eating? Did you have a wonderbread sandwich? A beef patty? Or maybe you had rice and curry? Leave us a comment and tell us what was happening in your lunchroom!

And remember, A Taste for Life is happening this Wednesday April 28, 2010 where you can take your tastebuds on a cross-cultural journey while supporting a great cause!
