Motionball Gala

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

Last month thinkGood. was invited to another fabulous Motionball event.  Every year Motionball’s team puts togetheran annual Gala fundraiser to help support Special Olympic athletes across Canada.  This year’s Decadence Gala was held at the ever so fabulous Carlu Hotel. It was hosted by MTV’s Nicole Holness, and featured performancesby Matt Dusk, Keys N Krates, Maestro Fresh West and Abstract Breaking Systems. Please don’t let me forget the show stopper for the evening the Calvin Klein fashion show.

This year Motionball has raised over $220,000 to bring their grand total over the past decade to 2 million dollars for Special Olympics Canada. These bestfriends and brothers Mark, Sean and Paul Etherington and their team of do-gooders, are true angels who’s relentless commitment to such a worthy cause will leave them with an everlasting legacy, that will never be forgotten by the thousands of lives they continue to touch and inspire.

For those of you unfamiliar with Special Olympics Canada here is information listed below.  To find out more about Motionball and how you can help their initiative please click here.  Thank you once again to Duet Public Relations for the invitation to such an inspiring night!

Football Frenzy

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

Last weekend team thinkGood. was up bright and early to snap some pictures and cheer on the athletic do-gooders at another marvelous Motionball event. On October 2, 2010 Motionball, the terrific non-profit that raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, held Football Frenzy hosted by the charismatic do-gooder Matte Babel.  Football Frenzy is Motionball’s fall fundraising initiative that has teams paired with a Special Olympic athlete in competition for the coveted Football Frenzy trophy. The day’s events centre around games of co-ed soccer and flag football, with less competitive but definitely hilarious events such as tug of war and a pudding eating contest. Although many of the event’s athletic do-gooders were out a little late at the previous night’s very successful tailgate party for Football Frenzy, everyone was ready for a day of fun as team spirit was high and the air of competition was palpable. The most memorable event of the day was the Molson Coors Sports Challenge where 18 Special Olympic athletes participated in a soccer shootout and football touchdown competition; each successful goal and touchdown generated $100 for Motionball from the generous sponsor Molson. Thanks to a strong effort from the Special Olympic athletes $4000 was raised from the challenge!  The day was a resounding success with high fives all around to the organizers, volunteers, and of course participants! A special thank you goes to the lovely ladies Alyssa and Jennifer from Duet PR for inviting us out.

Motionball Marathon of Sport

Monday, May 31st, 2010

This past Saturday May 29th Motionball hosted their 9th annual Marathon of Sport.  Motionball, for those of you who are unfamiliar with their work is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to integrating Special Olympic athletes and the next generation of volunteers, donors and sponsors through social sporting events.  30 teams enter to compete in a variety of sports, while raising $2500 in pledges per team for Special Olympics Canada.

This year the event was hosted by CP24’s Matt Babel and Sportnet’s Evanka Osmak.  Matt and Evanka’s engaging personalities, and super friendly attitudes definitely added to the inclusive and fun filled atmosphere created by the organizers of Motionball.

Motionball was created by three brothers, Mark, Sean and Paul Etherington, who have been involved with Special Olympic charity initiatives since childhood.  Stemming from participating  as volunteers at fundraising events organized by their parents (who are also co-founders of the Sport Celebrities Festival) these brothers banded together to initiate a journey that has raised over $1.6 million for Special Olympics Canada since it commenced in 2001.

The Marathon of Sport that took place on Saturday was action packed, fun filled, and very well organized might I add.  They had everything from fresh produce for snacks, an ice cream station to cool you down, and they even encouraged athletes to bring their own refillable water bottles in order to promote environmental responsibility.  The DJ kept the spectators entertained and even the dogs came out to support.

We at thinkGood. couldn’t stop expressing to our friends and peers afterwards what an enjoyable experience it was, and we can only hope that others will be inspired by these three brothers and their team of do-gooders.  The day was so fun that team thinkGood. may even join in the festivities next year.  Thank you to Alyssa and Jennifer from Duet Public Relations for the invitation.  Please check out the pictures from the event below.

Until Next Time,

Do Good, Feel Good, Live Good
