Never Too Late….Hedley

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The ladies at thinkGood. are huge fans of Hedley.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with their music some of their hits included “Perfect”, “Cha-Ching”, my favourite “Sweater Song” and “Never Too Late”.  Hedley recently took home three MMVA’s including Video of the Year.  Without a doubt they have taken the pop scene by storm but their humanitarian efforts are what intrigues us at thinkGood.  Recently Hedley took a trip to Kenya alongside Free the Chidlren’s founder and front-man Craig Kielburger to help build schools and bring awareness to a country so desperately in need of aid.  While there Hedley entertained the local school children with an acoustic version of their hit song “Never Too Late”.  Much appreciation goes out to Hedley for taking their social consciousness to a level that most pop stars couldn’t even imagine doing.  Below are some of the lyrics and Hedley’s performance in Kenya.

Never Too Late

Hoping I can run today and get away faster
Than ever from here
Another night and who can say if leaving is better
Than living in fear

Here’s to all the broken hearts tonight
Here’s to all the “fall-a-parts” tonight
Here’s to every girl and boy who lost their joy
They let it get away

You know it’s never too late
Get up and start all over again
You know it’s never too late
There’s got to be a better way
Don’t settle for the cold and rain
It’s not too late to start again
To find a way to smile and never let it get away!

It’s been too long and we’ve been down and out without laughter
No smiling just tears
We’re tired of falling down and being such a disaster
We’ve been here for years

Could You?

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

We definitely live in a digital world where our senses are constantly being stimulated. It can be difficult to engage people and keep them interested, but Free the Children is stepping up to the challenge to get it’s audience listening, and thinking. Free the Children recently launched a new website www.couldyou.ca which showcases videos that ask some interesting questions and definitely gets you thinking.

We often say in passing “I couldn’t live without…” or “I have to buy…” but we often disregard the fact that many people aren’t able to buy things, and can and do live without period.  One of the videos posted on www.couldyou.ca asks:

Could you live on two litres of water a day?

You might think to yourself  ”well…I don’t really drink that much water per se…” but this video below shows that it might prove challenging to make it through breakfast. Hope this gets you thinking next time you’re in the shower, or you’re washing a dish, or even filling up your water bottle.

Happy Mama’s Day

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Every year on the second Sunday in May, the world dedicates this day to all of the wonderful mothers out there.  I wanted to take the time to sincerely speak about how important it is to put some time aside to let your mom know, that her love is not being taken for granted.  In life you meet new friends, love interests, become workaholics etc.  It’s funny how we so easily stop investing life’s time in the one who sacrificed a lifetime for us.  This Sunday please take some time to re-invest in the one who has invested in you the most.

If you are stuck on what you should get for your mom here are some suggestions.  Free The Children has set-up a Mamas to Mamas program, where your mom can help another mom in an underdeveloped country provide resources for her children.  If you are at a loss for words, and a card is more your style, why not purchase Keep A Child Alive’s Mother’s Day e-card.  Both gifts are thoughtful, selfless, genuine, and unconditionally loving just like a mom.

The thinkGood. team would also like to take this time to express to our mothers how much we love and appreciate them.  If at all you appreciate the work we do, please do understand that what thinkGood. embodies is just an extension of what our moms have instilled in us.  thinkGood. is comprised of three ladies who were raised and inspired by three women who taught us to be blind to colour, creed, religion, class or any other social categorization. Instead they taught us to love the world inclusively and without judgement.  They are the picture perfect definition of self-sacrifice, security, wisdom, strength, kindness, grace and most of all unconditional love!   thinkGood. is a testament to everything they have taught us, and wherever this journey takes us we will always stay humble, and remember the values these everyday superheroes have bestowed upon us!

“My mom is a neverending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being.  I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune.”  ~Graycie Harmon

Good Living Green Living

Monday, April 26th, 2010

As I sit here writing this post, I’m listening to a local radio station with my Eton multi-purpose radio that’s powered with a solar panel or hand crank power. It can also be used as a flashlight, and can minimally charge your cell phones – think dire situations. This thinkGood. green shopping bag item was found at the 2010 Toronto Green Living Show at the Direct Energy Centre. With over 400 exhibitors, there was something for everyone. Stalls displayed information on all things green – cleaning products, organic and fair trade food items, home building supplies, scooters, housewares, and much much more. There were businesses big and small with innovative green products like Good Lines Decor that sells (among other things) hypoallergenic pillows stuffed with polyester made from recycled P.E.T. plastic (think recycled pop bottles). We also learned about the Ontario Electronic Stewardship which provides info on where Ontarians can recycle old electronics; don’t even think of throwing them out! Other corporations that got some green light were President’s Choice with their organic food line, and Lexus with their uber-luxurious hybrid vehicle.

One of our favourite do-gooders Craig Kielburger was present in spirit as well with the Me to We clothing line. Tees from Me to We are ethically manufactured, quality apparel for the socially-conscious consumer. Also awesome is that 50 per cent of the profit from the tees goes to Me to We’s charity partner, Free The Children, to support development projects in rural and impoverished areas across the globe. Juno themed tees support Music Counts who helps buy instruments for youth, and all tee purchases ensure the planting of a tree.  Today we helped plant six trees!   What did you do today?

Check out some pics from the event below. And if you want to join us at our next event, just look out for the events highlighted in pink on our Join Us page!!!

As always,

Do Good, Feel Good, Live Good.
