As you’ll remember from our earlier post Catalyst is the amazing dance company that put together The 5th Element a dance performance that raised funds to help build a performing arts school in Kenya. Today team thinkGood. is proud to shine the spotlight on the two certified do-gooders behind Catalyst: Janet L. Castillo and Natasha Powell. We had the opportunity to ask them a few Good questions and you can read their responses below!
Here’s what Janet had to say:
What inspires you to do Good?
The world needs more of it.
What is the greatest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?
Breaking my arm when I was at the top of my dance career in L.A. I couldn’t dance and was devastated. It was like telling me to stop breathing. Of course, down the road, it was a blessing in disguise.
How are you trying to change the world?
By inspiring people to be the person they are truly meant to be. Through Catalyst we “Dance to Inspire Change”.
If you had a million dollars what would you do with it?
Open up a travelling dance school where people of any background could travel anywhere they wanted to freely exchange dance, culture, language, and life experience. Through difference, we learn more about each other and that is what the world needs more of. I would also build a magnificent stage and home for the artistic communities and have all proceeds go to charities devoted to youth empowerment, creativity, and innovation.
And Natasha said:
What inspires you to do Good?
The fact that I get to wake up in the morning, the fact that I have my health, my family, a roof over my head. All the things that we sometimes take for granted. I also believe in the philosophy of Paying it Forward. Being able to share my experiences and the things I’ve learned with others is very fulfilling to me!
How are you trying to change the world?
By smiling…you never know whose day you’re going to change just by smiling.
Do you have a hero?
The one and only Claudette Powell. She’s strong, she’s passionate, and she’s crazy! LOL! I wouldn’t take her any other way! She’s my mother and I love her with every part of my soul.
What was your last act of kindness?
Helping an elderly woman carry her luggage down the stairs at the subway station.
