It’s no secret that advertising influences behaviour; have you seen Apple’s first quarter results? More frequently though, ads are being used to create positive social change and raise awareness about social causes. In light of Ad Week 2012 here are a few GOOD ads:

We Day!
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010
Toronto has been teeming with energy these past few weeks with TIFF, Manifesto, and now We Day, soon to be followed Nuit Blanche; does this city ever sleep? Tangent aside, We Day is an awesome youth event put together by Free the Children. It’s a day long event that kicks off a year long program of social change, We Schools in Action, at high schools across the country. We Day inspires, motivates, and ignites the passion of high school students by bringing them today’s top leaders in social change. Present at this year’s event will be K’naan, Deepak Chopra, Rick Hansen, Hedley, Philippe Cousteau, and many more. We Day brings students inspirational speeches and entertainment that they can bring back to their communities and then begin working towards creating change locally and globally. For more information on the year long high school community action program – We Schools in Action, and its celebratory kick off – We Day click here.
If you’re not a student, and you’re intrigued by the event, fret not! We Day will be broadcast on CTV on Saturday October 30, 2010 (check your local listings for time slots) as well it will be streamed live on www.weday.ctv.ca.
thinkGood. will definitely have all eyes and ears glued to this youth empowerment event that is committed to inspiring leadership, and active global citizenship in the youth of today.

Where’s My Goat?
Saturday, September 11th, 2010When it comes to TV, I’m really out of the loop. I find if there’s anything I really want to watch, I’ll look for it online (thank GOODness for the Internet) and if I can’t find it there, well…it really doesn’t bother me. What I do find I enjoy watching is documentaries! They can be really eye-opening, and have come a long way from the boring science class documentary on mitosis. While perusing the Internet one evening, I stumbled upon the trailer for the awesome Canadian documentary Where’s My Goat? that explores the ideas of ethics, charity and gifts.
Visit www.wheresmygoat.ca to watch the trailer and see why it’s a thinkGood. kind of documentary.
Where’s My Goat? premieres on September 28th at 9 pm EST on the CBC’s new channel Documentary which is free on preview for the month of September from your service provider. I know I haven’t been a TV girl as of late, but I may have just found my channel!
Filmmaker Christopher Richardson buys goats for third world families as thank-you gifts for his commercial clients. It’s a fresh approach to promotional giveaways, but as the list of gifted goats grows, some clients question the existence of their goat and whether ethical gifts have the impact Christopher hopes. So Christopher decides to travel to Zambia to track down a client’s goat and discover for himself if he is being innovative or naive. Are ethical gifts the positive developing world life-changers they are advertised to be?
Larry David: Earth to America
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
While paying a visit to one of my friends yesterday, he had shown me a segment on Earth to American featuring Larry David. For those of you who don’t know who Larry David is, he is the co-creator of a little television series some might of heard called SEINFELD! Larry better known for his acting, producing and writing abilities for the popular series has now converted from comedic creator to world renowned activist.
Often times when we think of activism, and saving the planet these concepts are often attached with heavy feelings of worry and despair. I love when I come across a piece like this, as it brings a little laughter and entertainment to some of the world’s more pressing issues. Check out his stint on why the world needs to clean up its act if we ever want to eat a tuna sandwich again!

Fast Food Gone Local
Monday, July 26th, 2010
While others are spending their time watching Jersey Shore and Top Model for their entertainment pleasure we at thinkGood. love watching the Food Network. We are graciously known for our savoury treats that we create in our Kitchen but Bette at Bette’s Diner takes her innovative creations to a whole new level. On a recent episode of Diner’s Drive-ins and Dives host Guy Fieri took his viewers on a whirlwind tour of the best organic, and locally sustained diners around the US. Bette’s diner was my favourite. Bette makes everything from scratch, and purchases all her ingredients from local food vendors. Way to support your local farmers.
If you have never tried eating at an organic, locally supported restaurant why not try it out this summer. See if you can taste the difference. Does it taste a little more fresh? Can you tell the difference in the quality? I know I can tell the difference and it definitely adds to my culinary experience.
Although Bette’s Diner is no where close to Toronto, there are many restaurants in the GTA that support local and sustainable farming. If you aren’t able to try it yourself maybe you’ll find some inspiration from the clip below from Bette’s Diner. I know I would love to try that souffle pancake yummy!

Moto Restaurant Food vs. Science
Friday, July 2nd, 2010The other day I was having a discussion with a friend of mine about first dates. We talked for hours about the hits and misses of our experiences and started coming up with the best first date ideas. I’m not a wine and candle light kinda girl, and my friend who is a die hard traditionalist was frightened at the idea of being able to eat your menu as an appetizer, and being served edible packaging peanuts for dessert. Being the quirky person that I am this concept of food innovation only excites me and I think it would make for an evening of interesting conversation.
Chefs Homaro Cantu and Ben Roche are molecular gastronomists who are trying to tackle some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues by creating innovative solutions using advanced technologies and a whole lot of imagination in the kitchen. Tune into Planet Green for their new television series or go to Chicago to get the real Moto experience. To check out how Chefs Cantu and Roche get down in their unconventional kitchen view the clip below! Have any great first date ideas????? Let us know!
