Food & Art, a lovely marriage indeed.

Ah, long weekends.  The anticipation, excitement, and hope that you won’t waste it doing nothing are probably feelings you all recognize.  Maybe you’ll dust off that barbeque and invite friends and family over, or maybe a road trip is more up your alley.  But for those of you who adore food and art, and are still absolutely clueless as to how you might spend this weekend, then here is an event that you definitely SHOULD attend!  This Saturday, May 21st, come out and celebrate the 2nd Annual Bluebird: A Food and Art Thing Exhibition, 7 pm to midnight at 918 Bathurst.

"Nude Beach" by Raj Ghatalia & Kamini Kamdar.

Brought to you by a talented, passionate group of food and art lovers, Bluebird explores the connection between what we eat, and the world of artistic expression.  Using food as a medium, provocative art is constructed to guide the viewer into thinking twice about their nourishment.  By showcasing food in an element that we may not be familiar with, the ideas surrounding these food items are twisted and manipulated, re-formatting the meaning and purpose of food.  By constructing a platform for discussion, shock and wonder using otherwise mundane pieces of food, the Bluebird Food and Art team hopes to invigorate and re-calibrate the meaning of food with the hopes of creating a permanent place in our imagination for the relationship between food and art.  Food Art, though not a new concept, is gaining popularity and momentum.  This event aims to further garner support for this movement right here in Toronto.

"Identity Crisis" by Raj Ghatalia & Kamini Kamdar.

The Bluebird Food and Art team are also equally committed to and passionate about making change in our community.  Admission to this event is at least one non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank.  Last year’s Exhibition culminated in 25 boxes of goods for the Food Bank, an amazing success that the team hopes to surpass this Saturday.  Also, by supporting local artists and giving them the opportunity to take part in this delicious event, the Food and Art team hopes to spotlight the creativity and talent available right here in our community.

Come out and feast with your eyes, mingle with awesome people, and be prepared to have your mind blown, one fruit and vegetable at a time.  See you there!
