Dear 16-year-old Me is a viral video created by the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund for Melanoma Awareness Month. DCMF was co-founded by Sari Cornfield, David’s widow, who lost the father of her son at the age of 32. In keeping David’s memory alive the foundation hopes to raise awareness and reduce the number of melanoma cases. Sari describes the video’s success as overwhelming – it’s been viewed internationally more than 1.5 million times since May 2nd.
The video features a series of melanoma survivors, as well as family and friends of people who were taken by the disease, addressing the viewer — young adults in particular — about the importance of checking their skin regularly, the harmful effects of sun exposure and the importance of wearing sunscreen year-round.
