Serendipity is a fortunate but accidental discovery which perfectly describes my stumble upon Aloe Blacc. He is quoted as saying: “My purpose for music is positive social change. Even if the music itself does not explicitly express anything that may signify positive social change, the product of the music will.” Blacc is described as the recession’s “Robin Hood” and for that alone, I knew I had to take a listen.
Please take in “You Make Me Smile“ from his album ”Good Things“. The video below is a great live recording of Blacc and his band busking, but feel free to listen to the album cut here.
You Make Me Smile lyrics
I think its safe to say
Things just haven’t been going my way
No work coming in so my money is spent
And I still got bills to pay
But all in all you’re right here with me
When I’m sinking, oh, you come through and lift me
Its nothing more than the love that you give me
Keeps me from drowning in tears
You make me smile
Oh, you make me smile
Come through and save the day
You make me smile
You make me smile
In a very special way
Everywhere I go
People seem to ask me
Where I’d get my joy why am I so happy
In these trying times when a frown is the fashion
I’m beaming like the sun now how can that be
See the answer to the query is very simple
I’m always grinning from dimple to dimple
Because you love me unconditionally
My happiness is heart shaped, can’t you see
You make me smile
Oh, you make me smile
Come through and save the day
You make me smile
You make me smile
In a very special way
doGood. feelGood. liveGood.
