It’s been more than 50 days since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank into the Gulf of Mexico. Thankfully news reports indicate that on Tuesday of this past week a containment cap was successfully placed over the broken wellhead and is currently limiting the gushing flow of crude oil into the ocean. The spill has become the largest oil spill in U.S. history, but some would say the disaster is receiving minimal media coverage. Enter the activists…
Greenpeace UK is gearing up for an international campaign against BP the oil company responsible for the disaster and as such is kicking off their campaign with a contest to get individuals involved. Environmentalists, creative types, university students on holiday, your mission should you choose to accept it, is to re-brand BP by redesigning the BP logo. Thousands of submissions have been posted on flickr already, but fear not there’s still time to get your design in. Final entries must be submitted before June 28th. For more info click here.
Kudos to the artist behind this entry! We wish we knew who it was so we could give them some shine. Check out the other entries here on flickr.

This whole disaster with BP is idiocy. The total amount of crude oil pouring forth into the Gulf of Mexico jumped by thousands of barrels Wednesday right after an subaquatic robot apparently hit the containment cap that has been getting crude from BP’s Macondo well. I question how much devastation this whole catastrophe is going to cost the ocean when it’s all over
The oil spill is nothing to laugh at but I just saw a kid wearing a t-shirt that cracked me up. BP – We’re bring oil to America’s shores. I died laughing because BP’s billion dollar image change to their new sunflower logo is forever going to be associated with the worst environmental disaster to strike America. I love t-shirts with a message! Thanks for the comment!!
