Drop in the Bucket

Many of us don’t mind if we go a day without drinking a glass of water. I mean, there will always be water running out of my tap when I’m ready for it, and if it stops running, I’ll go catch it at the store. And if THAT store doesn’t have it, I’ll go to another one! What I’m trying to say is, who needs water when you’ve got milk?!

AFRICA DOES!

Just recently I was informed by a friend about the non-profit organization Drop in the Bucket that is working tirelessly to build wells for children in Africa, so that they can have access to clean and safe drinking water. To date they have constructed nearly 70 wells and have provided numerous sanitation systems for schools since they were established in 2006.

In case (like me) you didn’t know, each flush of the toilet is the equivalent of the amount of water that one person in the developing world uses all day for washing, cleaning, cooking and drinking. Half of Africa’s people lack access to safe drinking water and of all of the renewable water available in Africa, each year only 4% is used because most Africans lack the wells, canals, pumps, and other irrigation systems needed to get to it.

So what are the do-Gooders at Drop in the Bucket doing about this situation? They are creating change! Not only have they set out to make a difference in Africa by solving the water crisis, but they are doing it out of the Goodness of their hearts, as they are an organization run by volunteers.

We at thinkGood. appreciate what Drop in the Bucket are doing for these post-conflict communities as these water wells will improve the health of women, children and adolescents.

But how can you help, you ask?

An anonymous donor has generously agreed to fund a well at the Ajibijibi Primary School in Uganda when the goal of 10,000 Facebook Fans is reached. So visit http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/dropinthebucket?ref=ts and click “Like” to help support a wonderful cause.
